How To Turn Your Life Around Using The Compound Effect
You have probably read this quote before:
“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with” — Jim Rohn
Friends shape your identity.
But your friends are just one influence in your life.
What about the person you surround yourself with every second of your life?
Yes, I’m talking about you.
YOU are the biggest influence in your life.
Here’s the bottom line…
Your friends are important. But what’s even more important is to become a person you want to spend all your life with.
Tell me how your average day looks like and I will tell you who you will become.
How To Turn Your Life Around With The Power Of The Averages
You Are The Average Of Your Habits
Small daily habits add up to big changes in life.
It’s not what you do occasionally that matters; It’s what you do regularly that sets the direction of your life.
Most people do things for instant gratification.
They don’t acquire any new skills or knowledge for the future.
They don’t take massive actions to invest in their future.
If you keep doing the things you do every day, where would be in 10 years from now?
Is this where you want to take your life?
If the answer is no, change your daily habits and let the compound effect work for you.

You Are The Average Of Your Thought Pattern
Whether you accept it or not, you talk to yourself in your head a lot. Isn’t it true?
Most of your thoughts stem from your environment, values, and beliefs.
Here’s the formula for a clean and positive mind:
Positive thought patterns = Decluttered brain ➕ Congruency with values ➖ Limiting beliefs
To declutter your brain, dump your thoughts out without being attached to them. Dumping could include writing them down, talking out loud, or simply observing your thoughts.
Strong values come with intentions. If you don’t know what you value, notice what you admire about people or yourself. When you know your values, stick to them to stay congruent. When your values, desires, and actions are aligned; you feel positive from the inside.
Limiting beliefs are most people’s worse hidden enemy. They carry it with them without knowing it. Every person can achieve greater heights once they start believing. I know it sounds cliche but you can really become or achieve anything you set your mind to.
“Argue for your limitations, and sure enough they’re yours.” ―Richard Bach
You Are The Average Of What You Consume
What you read, watch, listen, buy and eat impacts your mood, energy, and behavior.
It’s easy to fall down into a negative downward spiral by scrolling through social media, reading the news, eating junk foods, buying useless things, etc.
These activities literally play with your mind and make you addicted to them.
Social media plays with your reward pathways. Every time you scroll, your mind releases dopamine and it keeps craving it even more.
The news keeps you in survival mode. They take advantage of the fact that people get hooked on drama and fear-based news.
Junk food spikes your blood sugar to insane amounts only to get a crash soon after. (Not to mention the other things junk food does to you)
Buying stuff is another way to instantly feel good. But all the things you buy take your focus, time, money, and space at your home. So only buy things that truly add value to your life.
To leave the addiction prison, be mindful and change or limit what you consume. You’ll notice a big difference in your mood, energy, and impulses.

You Are The Average Of Your Aspirations
If you know what you want from life, it easy to set a direction and design a life that pulls you towards your goals.
Average aspirations result in a mediocre life. Big aspirations require courage and massive actions. Not all of these massive actions result in success. But when you average out the result of these actions, you end up far ahead than most people.
Your aspiration will give you the struggle and obstacles you need for your growth.
So pick your aspiration wisely because they set the direction of your life, career, health, wealth, relationships, and personal development.
Think big. You will only get what you think you deserve. Because when your aspirations are big, your actions won’t stay average.
You will seek continuous improvement because you must match the standard of your goals.
High standard goals → High standard actions → Higher rate of learning → Higher rate of success
When you achieve success, celebrate all you want but never stop aspiring. Your aspirations will give you the reason to wake up in the morning.
“To understand the heart and mind of a person, look not at what he has already achieved, but at what he aspires to.”
― Kahlil Gibran, The Madman
