Spiritual Guidance: How To Find And Follow A Spiritual Path
Whether you’re a beginner on a spiritual journey, an advanced practitioner searching for Truth, or a random dude questioning your reality for the first time, spiritual guidance can help you find what you’re looking for faster.
But there’s a problem. You don’t know who to get guidance from – the world is full of gurus and you’re not sure who to listen to especially when they have different perspectives.
What Is Spiritual Guidance
Spiritual guidance is the art of learning/teaching that leads you to Truth. To learn that art, you can’t be too naive or too skeptical. You have to find Truth using your own discernment and intuition. As you do that, you may be guided to trust a guide to help you find what you’re looking for. But ultimately, it’s your own guidance guiding you to trust someone.
So how do you know a spiritual guide is right for you? Should you listen to one guru or learn from different spiritual masters? The answer is unique to each one of us but ultimately, it’s all a matter of resonance.
Some people awaken spiritually without a guru. Some people go to many spiritual teachers before they find their inner guru. Some people devote themselves to one guru and get enlightened which represents their dedication to their spiritual path.
No matter what path you choose, it’s important to understand the purpose of spiritual guides and how to seek their guidance.
How To Seek Spiritual Guidance
The first thing to understand is that your job is not to find God in a spiritual master, religion, or tradition. It is to find your own path to God-Realization (aka Self-Realization). People can easily fall into the trap of preaching to a guru when all that is needed is gratitude for their assistance.
Having said that here are some signs of a spiritual guide who could be right for you:
- They don’t take credit for your spiritual awakenings
- They are rooted in love, purity, authenticity, and innocence
- Their teaching comes from deeply realized wisdom and awareness
- They respect your free will and sovereignty
- You resonate with their style and teachings on a deep level
You want to watch out for those gurus who are not rooted in love or whose teachings don’t bring you back home to the truth of your being.
When you find the spiritual guide(s) you can trust, you need to be open and receptive to them without losing your inner compass of intuition and discernment. If you don’t open up, you may block your healing, growth, and awakening when you have a shield. It acts as a protective mechanism for the ego to avoid getting exposed. This is why it’s an art to find and follow spiritual guidance.
Since our ego-protective mechanisms keep us in the illusion, it’s not easy for us to see through them. But we can tackle them in two steps. The first step is listening/opening up – we don’t listen because we are tempted by our egoic patterns and distortions. The second step is following through the guidance – we don’t follow because of fear/lack of courage.
Guidance can come in the form of knowing, sensing, visions, excitement, inner voice, insights, signs, etc. If we don’t listen and follow the guidance, we will often find ourselves saying no when our soul wants to say yes and saying yes when our soul wants to say no. So we must find the people we can trust, the moments of silence where we can listen to our higher mind, and the courage to follow the guidance that comes through.
The Importance Of Following Spiritual Guidance
Whether you find a human spiritual guide or not, you’re always guided by your Higher Self, Spirit Guides, Guardian Angels, etc. if you learn to listen and be receptive to them. The key is to find the silence of the mind so your higher mind can shine forth.

Now, the whole universe guides me as the world has become my Guru and I realize that the world is a mirror of my consciousness.
To help you find the spiritual guidance that resonates with you, you can start by exploring some books on spirituality on your journey of purification to ascend to higher consciousness. You can also use tools such as meditation, contemplation, journaling, self-talk, etc.
No matter what path or tools you choose, the two most important ingredients of being guided are will and faith. The degree to which you are willing to be guided, you will be divinely guided accordingly. Then you must have faith in the guidance that comes through whether it’s through your Higher Self, a guru, or the Universe at large – it’s all God.
As you follow through the guidance and find what you’re looking for, you will be left with a fragrance of infinite love and gratitude. You will feel confident and humble because you have immense trust in yourself/the Universe/God as you open yourself up to the guidance that comes in each moment.
