8 Things To Do If You Don’t Know What To Do With Your Life
If you compare your size to the size of the universe, you almost don’t exist.
Yet, you are capable of much more than the things a thousand times bigger than you. That’s because of your energy and your ability to think.
You can breathe. You can think. And that’s why the world needs you.
That’s not an invitation to take a huge burden of the responsibility you have towards the world. It’s a calling and an opportunity to give back to the world.
The Answer To “What Should I Do With My Life?”
If you’ve ever said to yourself “I don’t know what to do with my life”, here’s what to do:
1. The World Needs You To Do Your Duty
“The first qualification for success in my view is a strong work ethic.” — Henry Ford II
Your duty is to do your work. Day in and day out.
Find your duty and commit to it. Your duty doesn’t have to be big for it to be valuable.
You could serve one or gazillions of people. The impact of your work could be tiny or huge. It doesn’t matter as long as you take responsibility and do your work.
It may take you time before you find the work you’re meant to do. But before that, make a habit to work and serve.
Have a bulletproof work ethic so you can transfer the same skill when you find the work you’re meant to do.
If you’ve already found your work, congratulations to you. All you’ve got to do is show up even when you don’t feel like it.
As they say…
The show must go on.
2. The World Needs You To Realize Your Potential
“With realization of one’s own potential and self-confidence in one’s ability, one can build a better world.” — Dalai Lama
You will never reach your full potential.
You know why? Because it’s unimaginable.
There is no limit to your potential.
Many people never believe something is possible before they see someone doing it with their own eyes. Once one person does the “impossible”, thousands of people follow only because their mind starts believing it’s possible.
Your potential can expand in any area you choose. You can increase your potential in one area or you can choose a combination of areas.
Expand your potential every day. Do one thing that makes you better in the area you wish. As the days add up, you’ll be surprised how much progress you can make in a matter of days.
If you commit to mastery for decades, people may see you as a god. Whether you call it “God” or “higher version”, you have something within you which you can only find once you tap into your higher potential.
3. The World Needs You To Spread Love
“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” — Aesop
No human is pure evil or good. Every one of us has our shortcomings and issues. But you can do your best to join the force of positivity.
When you fail to spread love and kindness, forgive yourself and do your best next time.
When you see the evil sides of people, remember that you’ve been there. You have demons inside you too. So forgive them and lead with empathy.
There’s enough negativity around the world. Do your best to not add your own negativity to it.
See the good in people. Appreciate and comment on their good side instead of judging their bad side. When they’ll receive a compliment on what’s good about them, they’ll develop the good in them.
Kindness, positivity and love — all spread like fire. Take the lead and kindle the spark.
4. The World Needs You To Be Your Own Self
“Be yourself, but always your better self.” — Karl G. Maeser
How many times have you been told to “be yourself”?
What exactly does it mean?
To be yourself, you must understand and create yourself. It means you must take the time to:
a) Define your values and guiding principles.
b) Understand your nature and individuality.
Once you do that, stick to who you are and take no shame in doing what you stand for. It’s okay to change your values throughout your life but don’t betray yourself at any point in life.
When you betray yourself, you feel it. You get hurt as you lose a part of yourself.
Find who you are and who you want to be. Then, take a conscious effort to stay true to yourself and take steps towards who you want to be.
5. The World Needs You To Truly Live Before You Die
“Every man dies. Not every man really lives.” — William Wallace
Just like defining yourself and who you want to be is crucial, it is also important to define your goals and vision for your life.
Define the experiences you want to have in life. Then, do everything you can to realize those experiences. The world is deprived of people who have the courage to go for what they want.
“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” — Howard Thurman
Find a synergetic relationship between your goals and other people’s goal. Live by the principle of synergy. Your win is my win and my win is your win.
Help the world and the world will help you back. Seek win-win situations. You will not only live your dream life, but you’ll also help others do the same.
6. The World Needs You To Share Your Gifts
“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” — Pablo Picasso
You have gifts combined with your unique personality. Don’t take your skills and talents to the grave.
Your gift doesn’t always have to be a skill. Your gift could be your unique story, a lesson, or a message you must share with the world.
When you share your gifts, many people will criticize you. But you’ve got to endure the hatred for the people who will love you. After passing through the noise of naysayers, you’ll reach the hearts of the people who need your gift.

“When you take care of yourself, you’re a better person for others. When you feel good about yourself, you treat others better. “— Solange Knowles
If you want to do anything significant in the world, the first thing you must do is to take care of yourself.
Whether you’re a business owner, a husband, a wife, or a parent, it all starts with your wellbeing. If you’re well, you can take care of the rest.
Prioritizing yourself doesn’t mean you’re selfish. It’s the opposite. It means you’re taking care of the basics so you can give yourself to those who need you. You will also give your best at your job when you feel good.
Take care of your mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing. Every day, do at least one thing that will improve your health. Eat the right foods. Be active. Sit in silence. Keep learning. Connect with others. Relax.
As they say in the airplanes…
Put your oxygen mask on first before helping others.
8. The World Needs You To Make It A Better Place To Live
“Try and leave this world a little better than you found it, and when your turn comes to die, you can die happy in feeling that at any rate, you have not wasted your time but have done your best.“— Robert Baden-Powell
On one hand, you’ve got to take care of yourself. On the other hand, you must make sacrifices to make the world a better place.
We’ve got to stop making everything about us. It shouldn’t all be about me, me, me, me, me, and me.
You can make big differences with small actions. Save water. Save food. Support a cause. Donate. Volunteer. Pollute less. Waste less. Help. Share (from your portion). Give (if someone wants something more than you do).
Set a good example. People tend to mirror behavior. With your small actions, you can make big changes.
You can shape the future for the coming generations.
It’s easy to underestimate your capabilities and impact on the world. But whether you realize it or not, you have huge power. It’s all a matter of how you will use your power.
The world is calling you.
Will you listen?
Will you dress up in your superhero attire?
Will you show up?
