Hey, this is Prakhar from DesignEpicLife.com. In the last episode, we covered how to craft your life vision your dream life. And in this episode, we are going to cover how to create your 1 to 10-year plan to design your life create a master plan.

Most people have no idea what they are doing with their lives but you’re not going to be one of them. I’m going to explain how to use your vision to create a master plan with a smart strategy with a 1 to 10-year plan.

The purpose of this plan is only to get closer to your vision. When you create this plan, you not only think about the reward that you’ll get after achieving it but think about the cost of inaction. Where would your life be if you don’t take action? If you don’t create this plan, how would your life look like in the next 1 to 10 years?

Now you know the importance of it, let’s get started creating it.

One more thing before we start. You have to deal with this fact that life is unfair. It’s not going to be perfect. The perfect conditions will never come and you’re not going to stay lucky all the time. That is why you have to take things in your hands. Because remember, you have this one life and you don’t want to waste it. You don’t want to spend time making excuses. Instead, you’re going to take responsibility and ownership of how you will design your life so you don’t regret it on your death bed.

To create this 1 to 10-year plan, we have to get down to SWOT analysis. This SWOT analysis is often done in businesses but if you treat yourself as a company, then it makes sense to do it for your plan as well. If you haven’t heard of it, here’s how you do it.

You have four sections named:

  • Strengths
  • Weaknesses
  • Opportunities
  • Threats

Now in the strength section, you’re going to write what your strengths are to win this 1 to 10-year plan. And these strengths could be your skills, qualities, character, resources, connections, knowledge or even the things that you are blessed to have in your life.

Then think about the weaknesses. What do you don’t have? What do you lack? The point of weaknesses is not to dwell on them. It’s to find ways to fill those gaps either by gaining those skills or finding someone else who can do that for you. Because remember we’re taking 100% responsibility. We’re not going to make any excuse for not moving towards our vision.

Then comes your opportunities. What events, people, books, courses, resources could you leverage in the coming time?

Last, think about all the threats in your way. You can also call them obstacles. Here you need to think everything that can go wrong. What can turn out against you? These threats are not meant to make you happy. In fact, they will make you sad and you will try to avoid thinking about them. But you must think and make a strategy to tackle them.

Instead of feeling sad about your situation, about your luck or about the events that may come in life, be grateful for them for they will make you stronger and prepare you for success. Celebrate your obstacles, but also be prepared for them.

Now, what if you don’t know what your potential threats might be? In that case, read the biographies or ask people who have done similar things that you want to do. Study these people. And not only successful people, but the people who have failed before because then you will know what exactly are your biggest obstacles so that you can prepare your specific strategies and overcome anything to become unstoppable.

Another thing you want to include in your 1 to 10-year plan is something called life wheel. There are different versions of life wheel and if you google “life wheel” you find plenty of them. But the main Idea behind it is that you want to think about setting goals in different areas of your life areas that are important to you. Often people make the mistake of setting goal in just one area and due to that, they become miserable because if they don’t succeed, there’s a lot of pressure on them.

So be flexible not only on your approach towards your goal but also diversify your source of fulfillment by setting goals in different areas of your life. And then for each area, you want to do yearly reviews in which you see how you are progressing. What’s working, what’s not working and what you could improve. And then set goals for the next year.

That’s how you design your life year by year. When these years stack up, you get closer to your vision, to your dream life that you want to live. There’s no magic to that. You have to take the charge. So don’t take any excuse and go out there and make it happen.
